CFLC Awards and Recognitions
Recognizing employers and educational institutions that have been supportive in granting time off for training and operations is essential in maintaining the “Profitable Partnership”. Primary Reservists are highly encouraged to show their appreciation by formally thanking their employers and/or educators with either a letter of thanks or a certificate of recognition. If an employer has gone above and beyond the call of duty they should be nominated for an Employer Support Award.
Letter of Recognition
A simple letter thanking an employer for time off goes a long way and should be written anytime that leave is granted. Sample letters are contained in the Unit Guide to employer support that are suitable for reservists to send directly to their employers and letters that are designed to be sent by the unit commanding officer. These letters are located in
Chapter 9 of the Unit Guide to employer support.
Certificates of Recognition
Through the Reserve Unit Support Program reservists can request a certificate of recognition for specific instances where an employer has been very supportive. Reservists may complete the order form and submitting to their unit employer support representative who will forward on to the Liaison Officer for printing.
The following certificates are available:
Employer Support Awards
Awards are presented in a two-year cycle and awarded at the Provincial and National Levels. All Canadian employers, and educational institutions, in both the private and public sectors, are eligible.
The next National Awards will be presented in Ottawa in June of 2009 and the next Provincial Awards will be presented between Jan-March 2009. All reservists are encouraged to nominate their civilian employer or educator for a CFLC award. Nominations for the 2009 CFLC Awards cycle may be submitted immediately, and nominations close on 30 November 2008.
Nominate Your Employer
Nominations for the employer support awards are submitted via the CFLC Website (On-line nomination form) during a two-year cycle. Nominations are accepted from Primary Reservists or Commanding Officers of units employing Primary Reservists.
Following the nomination deadline, a letter will be sent to all nominees thanking them for their support of the Reserve Force. A copy of this letter will be sent to the nominator and the nominators Commanding Officer. All nominations will then be sent to the CFLC Provincial committees for the selection of those that will receive Provincial Awards, the selection committee will also select a short list of nominations that will be sent to Ottawa to be considered for the National Awards. Provincial Awards will be presented between Jan-March 2009 with the National Awards being presented in Ottawa in June of 2009. All reservists are encouraged to nominate their civilian employer or educator for a CFLC award. Nominations for the 2009 CFLC Awards cycle may be submitted between now and 30 November 2008. Nominations received after 30 November will be considered for the 2011 Awards.
If a nomination is selected for an Award at either the Provincial or National Level, CFLC will cover the travel costs for the nominator and the winner to attend the Awards Ceremony. In cases where appropriate, two reps from the winning organization may be invited to attend the ceremony. An example of this would be to have a local and rep from the corporate headquarters. If a nomination is made on behalf of a group of reservists, the group will be asked to select one rep to attend the ceremony.
